Beloved Architect of Identity,
Have you ever noticed that people will travel thousands of miles for something you barely pay attention to?
A few weeks ago, we finished our cross-country move. Almost 3,000 miles. Just 30 miles short, actually.
Most of the drive followed Interstate 40, which overlaps with the legendary Route 66. Without planning it, we became part of something bigger.
This year marks Route 66's centennial. And I had no idea how deeply people care about it.
I started noticing travelers everywhere. People from Europe. Australia. New Zealand.
A week before leaving California, we visited the Santa Monica Pier and watched a group of Kiwis begin their journey on the Mother Road.
Then we saw more travelers at every stop. They had maps, paper passports, guidebooks, souvenirs. They collected stamps. They left gifts for strangers to find.
They spent thousands of dollars to experience vintage diners, old motels, fading neon signs, abandoned buildings, and forgotten towns. Places that, to someone else, might look outdated or irrelevant.
And almost every person we met said the same thing: "It exceeded my expectations."
At one point, I turned to my husband and said, "People fly halfway around the world for this."
Crazy, right?
And it made me think about business.
What if the thing you keep questioning in your business is someone else's Route 66?
What feels ordinary to you could be deeply meaningful to someone else. What feels too simple, too niche, or too small might be exactly what another person has been searching for.
I doubt the people who built Route 66 could have predicted what it would become 100 years later.
They weren't trying to create nostalgia. They were trying to connect people. The meaning came later.
Business works the same way. You can't control every outcome. You can't predict every way your work will impact someone.
But you can build with intention. You can create systems that support your vision. You can keep showing up with a genuine desire to serve.
And sometimes, that's enough to create something that outlives you.
Stand behind your work. Not because you control its future. But because you care enough to build it well.
The people who need it are looking for it. They just might be farther away than you think.
Until next time, keep blooming,
Ruth
Reflect
• What part of my work have I dismissed simply because it feels obvious to me?
• If I trusted that my work could create lasting value, what would I stop second-guessing?
Reframe
Old belief: "If I'm uncertain, my business probably isn't valuable."
New belief: "I don't need certainty about the outcome to believe in the value of what I'm building."
Old belief: "I need to predict exactly where this will lead."
New belief: "My job is to create with intention. The impact unfolds over time."
