Beloved Architect of Identity,

I’ll be honest with you…

When the phone rang that Saturday morning, my first thought was: Nope. Not today.

A last-minute wedding invite?
80 miles away?
On a day I already had plans?

My husband, of course, was ready to jump in the car without a second thought. Meanwhile, I was calculating: the gift, the drive, the time, the chaos.

It felt easier to stay home, stay comfortable, stay in control.
Maybe you’ve been there too?

But here’s the thing, deep down, I knew this mattered to him.
It wasn’t about me.
It was about caring, about showing up when it is necessary.

So, I did the impossible. I wrapped up my work in 90 minutes flat, dressed up, grabbed a gift, and off we went.

And you know what?
The wedding was beautiful. The drive there was smooth (miracle of miracles in LA). We laughed, we celebrated, we felt connected.

But then… the real adventure began.

On the way home, what should’ve been a two-hour ride turned into a six-hour odyssey.
The freeway shut down. A truckload of Teslas had caught fire.
Toxic smoke. Chaos everywhere.
We tried side streets. Gridlock.
We waited it out at a fast-food place. Slept a bit in the car.
Finally—at 1:30 am—we crawled our way home.

Exhausting? Yes.
Frustrating? Absolutely.
Worth it? More than I realized at the time.

Because here’s the truth I walked away with:

Often, we feel it is better to stick with the predictable, the comfortable, the safe. The things we could plan and control.

But that night showed me something different.
Sometimes the “hard” choice, the one that feels inconvenient, messy, or uncomfortable, is exactly the one that matters most.

It’s not about me.
It’s about the ripple effect of showing up.
For my husband. For others. For something bigger than myself.

And that applies to business (and life) too.

How many times do we hold back because it feels like too much effort? Too complicated? Too uncertain?
How many times do we miss out on the deeper meaning behind the work?

Your presence matters.
Your work matters.
Even when you can’t see the ripple right away. It’s there.

So here’s my encouragement for you this week:

Get in the car.
Start the drive.
Show up for what matters, even when it feels inconvenient.

Because the story isn’t just in the product or the plan, it’s in the transformation you create along the way.

And trust me: those ripples are worth it.

I’m rooting for you always,
Ruth

Reflect

  1. What “inconvenient yes” are you avoiding right now?

  2. How might your presence, your choice to show up, create a ripple you can’t see yet?

Reframe

Old belief: It’s better to stay safe, planned, and predictable.

New belief: The best moments (and the biggest impact) happen when you step into the unknown and show up for something beyond yourself.

Actionable Transformation

  1. Say yes once this week to something you’d normally decline because it feels inconvenient, but might matter deeply to someone else.

  2. Shift your business lens: Instead of asking “What’s easiest for me?” ask “Who needs me to show up?”

  3. Anchor your why: Before starting a project, remind yourself of the deeper transformation it creates for others, not just the task itself.
